Stryn

Cabins in Norway are the real deal.  They dot the landscape like tiny shrines to Thoreauvian minimalism – usually without running water, indoor plumbing, electricity, or even road access – and usually seem as relaxed and natural in the landscape as a herd of deer.  Nothing like the faux-timber monstrosities that awkwardly overpower our landscapes in the [...]

Rock Canyon overlook

Drove up behind Squaw Peak this evening to see the fall colors, but ended up responding to something else.  Mainly, I realized how much I miss the mountains above Utah Valley.

Of course, there was some color, too.

Europe 2009

Here’s a handful of photos from this summer’s trip to Norway & rail trip through Europe.  Enjoy!

Spiral Jetty

Travelled out to the Great Salt Lake last weekend to see Robert Smithson’s ‘Spiral Jetty’.  Being my first visit (not counting the times I’ve flown over it), it was only natural that I first see it and photograph it at night.  That is, I seem to have a penchant for first visiting landmark locations while at [...]

Portraits of Jim from this morning

I’ve know Jim for several years now, and have wanted to photograph him for almost as long.  He and his wife have spent the past 15+ years living in a cabin up in Big Cottonwood Canyon, and are faithful members of the LDS Brighton Branch where I attend church.

Finally got around to photographing him this [...]

Death Valley

Headed down to Death Valley for a few days to shoot some stock images.  Kept running into herds of photographers, which was actually a good thing: free models!  It was a bit laughable, though, when they kept looking over their shoulder trying to figure out what I was taking pictures of.  Or when other photographers would come [...]

SKI Magazine feature

This month’s issue of SKI Magazine (October ‘08) features a 12-page article I shot last March in Revelstoke, BC, and written by Christopher Salomon. This article has just what a photographer likes to see: tons of huge photographs! Big thanks to Sarah LaVigne, the photo editor at SKI who was always a pleasure [...]

NW Road Trip 2008

.
Last month I took a 2,500 mile road trip to visit Danielle’s family in north-central Washington. It wasn’t the most efficient way to travel, especially considering the price of gas; but being on the road affords a lot more photography than sitting in an aluminum can at 30K’. Plus, it’s a lot easier [...]
